Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. This is the first blog I’ve ever created so bare with me as I navigate through some of new tools and aspects of this page 🙂

Without boring you or sounding too much like a tinder profile, here is a little introduction into who I am. Starting off with the basics my name is Kari Groot and I am from a little farm town known as Abbotsford BC. I have lived in Abbotsford my whole life-minus the last year and a bit where I have stayed in Victoria to attend school at the University of Victoria. Although it was definitely hard to leave my family and friends behind, I have loved getting to meet and know so many new and diverse people.

I wouldn’t necessarily say I have one main hobby that I enjoy doing but here are some of the things I am passionate about:

Firstly, I love swimming. It doesn’t matter how cold it is or where I am, if I have to opportunity to go swimming I will. I find often when I am anxious or need time alone, walking down to the ocean or a nearby lake is a great way to relax for awhile. Along with swimming one of my favourite things to do is to go camping. My family and I go camping in a little town called Kaslo right outside of Nelson BC. I’ve gone there every summer since I was born, and I can officially say it is my favourite place on earth. If you are in need a quaint get away, I highly recommend stopping by, pitching a tent, and staying for a night or two. I promise you won’t want to leave.

Another big passion of mine is being surrounded by children and learning with and through them. This past spring and early summer I had the opportunity to become a substitute educational assistant at a local school in Abbotsford. I had the chance to work alongside students at all different learning abilities including non-verbal students, and students who required 24/7 supervision. At first this job seemed overwhelming, and I wasn’t sure if I had to skills need to be successful, but these wonderful students were so gracious and so fun to be around that I looked forward to going to work. It confirmed my desire to become a teacher and be able to work with students all different learning abilities.

So yeah that’s me. Looking forward to reading everyone’s blog and hopefully learning about some new cool places to check out in Victoria. If you know any, let me know!
