For my free Inquiry I have decided to find ways in which myself (and hopefully others) can find ways to better manage their mental health despite having a lot of their plate, like going to university!
The topic of mental health is not new. If you were to asked to name someone in your life who has been affected by it, I’m sure you would be able to name several people, including possibly yourself. Despite being something very prevalent in many of our lives, it still can often feel unmanageable and at times like you are alone.
I am very open with my struggles with mental health as it is something that occupies my everyday life and often can create a barrier when it comes to things like school, work, and my relationships. I also am open because I believe that by expressing my own feelings it helps erase the stigma and “uncomfortably” around such topic. While this is my experience, I know that for others, what they deal with is very private and not something they want to talk about-and that’s okay too!
My goal of this inquiry is to not become an expert on mental health. That is something far out of my capabilities. My goal is to document ways in which help me mange my mental health and also the ways that just simply didn’t work. If I discover something that I think worked really well, I hope to one day be able to incorporate it into my classroom if I think it wound be useful to students (and other staff) who might benefit also from these techniques. I hope to research techniques, try out methods I haven’t tried before, and document my journey as I experience it.
